About Us

Michael Joseph, administrator of Ellen Rice Rest Home, has helped provide housing and Level 4 care to diverse, vulnerable populations in the Springfield community for over 60 years. The rest home began with Mr. Joseph's father, a first-generation Mediterranean-Syrian-Lebanese American of entrepreneurial and warm compassionate spirit. Ellen Rice continues a legacy of the spirit and culture of big family in a welcoming, friendly environment. Many of the residents have been calling Ellen Rice home and the staff and fellow residents family, since its establishment. Mr. Joseph, or Mike, especially enjoys cooking and providing laughs for the residents, sharing, "Our residents are very happy here."

Ellen Rice Rest Home's multicultural, multiracial, multiethnic, and multilingual staff and residents represent adults of all ages, identities and backgrounds, including men and women of Puerto Rican, Black and African American, Indian, Middle Eastern, mixed heritage, and European descent, with native fluent Spanish-speaking residents and staff. At Ellen Rice Rest Home, residents and staff meet at multiple intersections of experience and across difference in support and care for one another. We benefit from and enjoy our resident musicians and singers, arts-and-crafters, Domino, Bingo, and card champions, sports fans, fashionistas, flea market/farmer's market/shopper extraordinaires, cooks and bakers, nature and animal lovers, task helpers, worship leaders, and the overall kindness and talents of all our staff and residents.

We are thrilled to see residents improve their daily quality of experience from stable housing, access to resources, and consistent engagement with care teams, groups, activities, and medications as prescribed.

Staff and residents enjoying each other's company and smiling and supporting one another create the essence of what makes our residents "very happy here." -M. Joseph, Adm
